What is Haida art?

Haida art is a highly graphic and old art named after the Haida people from the Queen Charlotte islands. These islands are located at the northwest coast of Canada (see map).

Most people know it when they see it. Nowadays Haida art is very often used by tattoo artists all over the world

It’s composition of basically simple elements can produce very powerful graphics, sculpture’s and other pieces of art.

The Haida art style used today is not very different then it was hundreds of years ago. Many modern artists are related to the oldest native Indian cultures, and there work is still as imaginative, stylistic and powerful as made by there ancestors.

I was “infected” by this Artform during a great holiday in British Columbia several years ago. Drawing has always been a hobby of mine, especially the more graphic styles. By now, my creations are not just prints anymore. I am creating also pieces made out of plywood, stainless steel and plastics. All inspired by the mighty Haida...
